Kubota RTV Service Guide to Keep Your Side-by-Side Running Strong

Step 1: Replace the Air Filter

Your engine needs to breathe, and a clogged air filter is like trying to run a marathon with a hand over your mouth. Pop the hood and locate your air filter (it's held in place by two simple clips).

Pull the old filter out and compare it to your new one. See all that dust? That's exactly what we don't want getting into your engine. Give the old filter a few good whacks against the tire to see just how much dirt comes flying out.

While you've got the air filter cover off, check it for dust buildup. There's a rubber cap at the bottom where most dirt accumulates—take it off and clean it out. This is also a good time to check your intake for any debris that might have snuck past the filter.

Step 2: Clean Radiator Screens and Check Coolant

Pull up the radiator screens and make sure there's no grass, hay, or dirt clogging things up. There's one in the front and another in the back—check both. A clean radiator keeps your machine running at the right temperature.

Important: Only check your coolant level when the engine is cold. The system is pressurized when hot, and you don't want a face full of scalding coolant. If it's full, you're good to go.

Step 3: Check Brake Fluid

You want to be able to stop just as well as you go. Pull off the brake fluid cap and make sure the fluid is nice and clear. If it's dark or murky, it's time for a change. Clear fluid means you're ready to ride.

Step 4: Replace the Fuel Filter

On this Kubota RTV, the fuel filter is tucked up under a cover. Remove the cover, and you'll see the filter right there. It comes off pretty easily if you just keep unscrewing. Don't worry when fuel starts dripping; that's normal.

You'll notice two O-rings on the old filter. These need to be replaced every time. Pull them off and compare your old filter to the new one. The discolored yellow is all the sediment and debris you don't want in your fuel system.

Before installing the new filter:

1. Clean out the housing with parts cleaner
2. Wipe it down so cleaner doesn't get into your engine
3. Line up the little indents on the new filter
4. Push it in until you hear that satisfying click
5. Install the new O-rings (use a pick to push them into place)
6. Hand-tighten everything back up

Step 5: Replace Transmission/Hydraulic Filters

Now we're heading to the back of the machine. These two filters handle both your transmission and hydraulics, so they're doing double duty.

Remove the four bolts to access the filters. While you're back here, do a quick visual inspection:

• Check your exhaust for cracks (these like to break and make annoying rattling sounds)
• Inspect suspension components for wear
• Look at linkages to make sure there's no slop

Grab your filter wrench set and find the right size.

Important: Once you start removing these filters, they're going to leak continuously, so work fast.

For each filter:

1. Remove the old filter
2. Check that the old gasket came off with it (you don't want the old gasket stuck to the housing)
3. Lube up the new O-ring
4. Install hand-tight
5. Give it a little extra snug once your hands are clean

After both filters are in, hit everything with some brake cleaner so oil doesn't attract dirt. Then put the plate back on and you're done in the back.

Step 6: Change the Engine Oil

Time for the main event. First, let's prep the machine:

1. Remove the oil cap so oil flows smoothly
2. Fold down the dump bed and lock it in place (these are spring-loaded)
3. Remove the engine cover
4. Pull up the dipstick slightly so you can find it later when it's time to fill

Remove the access panel underneath and locate the drain plug (it's a 14mm bolt). Crack it loose and let that old oil drain into your catch pan.

While the oil is draining, snug the drain plug back down. It doesn't need to be crazy tight.

Step 7: Replace the Oil Filter

Here's where things get interesting. You've got two options:

Option 1 (What we recommend): Remove the plastic panel and take out the battery for easy access. The oil filter is right there on the side of the engine.

Option 2: If you're flexible, you can reach up from underneath with your filter wrench. Just watch out for wires.

Whichever route you choose:

1. Remove the old filter
2. Let it drain completely
3. Wipe the mounting surface clean
4. Install the new filter hand-tight (like all the other filters we've done today)

Before you put the battery back in, take a minute to clean out any dirt that's accumulated behind it. A pressure washer works great here—just don't blast your wires directly.

Step 8: Add Fresh Oil

This specific Kubota engine takes one gallon of oil. We typically use 15W-40 in all our machines unless the manual specifically calls for something else.

Fill it up, then start the engine for just a few seconds to circulate the oil. Shut it off and check the level on the dipstick. Full? Perfect.

Don't forget to put the engine cover back on.

Step 9: Check Hydraulic Fluid Level

Last step! Lift up both seats and pull out the plastic cover. The hydraulic tank is right underneath. Unscrew the cap, pull up the dipstick, and check the level.

Looks good? You're all set.
